This poem is a great poem to introduce new festive vocabulary words to children during circle time! There are various ways to extend this Literacy Lesson Plan into other STEAM activities: Art and Science.
Words such as: Autumn, Swirling, Prickly, Conkers, Swallows....ect.
ACITIVITY INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Gather all of the kiddos into a circle. Once the children are sitting down, then begin to ask the Open-Ended Questions below:
2. Then read the poem out loud and stop to explain and discuss each new vocab word.
3. Once you are done reading the poem, continue asking the children open-ended questions. Ask the children what was their favorite part of the lesson plan.
4. Once the discussion is over, have the children draw their favorite new festive vocabulary word from the poem.
OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS:
1. What is Fall/ Autumn?
2. What does Fall/Autumn look like?
3. What colors do the leaves change?
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES NEEDED:
1. Fall Poem
2. Clipboard for each child
3. Wide Crayons for preschoolers
4. Open space for the children to draw
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. The child will be able to explain at least 2 new festive vocab words.
2. The child will be able to articulate the seasonal changes during fall.
3. 90% of the children will be able to understand the meaning of the vocab word they drew.
