Painting Pumpkins

This festive art activity will provide children to explore painting their own pumpkin with different colored Tempera paints during their outdoor exploration. This lesson plan falls under : Art ( Painting) and Science (Color Mixing and About Pumpkins).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. The child will continue to build their fine motor skills by using precise paint brushes to paint their pumpkin.

  2. The child will continue to practice and strengthen their hand eye coordination while painting their pumpkin

  3. The child will be exercising their creative thinking skills by freely expressing their artistic design on their personal pumpkins.

MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES NEEDED:

1. Paint Brushes

2. Multi colored Tempera Paints

3. Fake plastic pumpkins

4. Smocks

5. Paint/water cups

6. Table Covers

7Individual Trays

PREPARATION: Before the children come outside, I will set up one of the tables with all of the materials listed above:

  • Cover the table with a table cover.

  • Put all of pumpkins and paint brushes into individual trays.

  • Place the paint and paint cups in the middle of the table

OPENING: Kindly invite the children to participate in the activity by showing and explaining the use of the materials on the table.

ACTIVITY: After discussing the use of the materials in the middle of the table. I will then encourage the children by asking them open-ended questions about pumpkins. Then I will encourage the children to freely decorate their pumpkin. While each child paints their pumpkin, I will engage in conversation with them.

CLOSING: After the children are done painting their pumpkin, I will then place their pumpkins on the drying rack and then clean up the materials once all of the kids are finished.
